After the success of the previous course in the spring, the Meyer Dancers are putting on another fun four-week 60s go-go dancing academy at East London’s favourite haunt, Paper Dress Yoga, starting Saturday 2nd June. This is your chance to shimmy, shake, and learn those original 60s go-go moves and two complete routines!
Every session will start with a 60s workout to classic hits and floor-fillers, from bands like the Beatles, Wilson Pickett, the Supremes and the Castaways. Cardio go-go is designed to improve fitness in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. This will be followed by a step by step go-go class with classic 60s moves. Finally, in the evening of the last Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase what you learnt at a special event.
This is a fun way to get fit while listening to 60s music in a friendly and supportive environment, perfect for beginners and improvers! Everyone is welcome – you don’t need to be a woman to attend. In addition to the dance moves, you’ll also be given authentic 60s styling tips, from beehives, to cut crease lids and cats eye flicks.
The Meyer Dancers are London’s 60’s go-go dance company. They have been performing together for five years, and have appeared alongside the Sonics, Geno Washington, the Trashmen and at several festivals, such as Glastonbury, Lovebox, Isle of Wight, Wilderness and Secret Garden Party. They have also featured in movies directed by Woody Harrelson and John Ridley. They also teach go-go at hen parties and birthdays. The dancers are inspired by the strong, feminine women in the movies of Russ Meyer and perform everything from mod to ye-ye and psychedelic, to suit any event.
