2017 has seen an impressive list of artists who’d started their careers in the 60s release new material. Some of the most notable are Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, Roger Waters, Alice Cooper, Santana (with the Isley Brothers), Ringo Starr, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison and Robert Plant. Neil Young has released not one but two LP’s this year: ‘Hitchhiker’ and ‘The Visitor’ (with American rock band Promise of the Real), although the former was recorded in 1976.
The Kinks’ Ray and Dave Davies both released solo records, and so did Robin Trower. Procul Harum, the band Trower had fronted in the late 60s, also produced their 12th studio album this year.
Gregg Allman finished recording his solo LP ‘Southern Blood’ before he died in May, and it was released in September. Yes and Asia’s Steve Howe wrote and recorded ‘Nexus’ with his son Virgil, who tragically passed away at the age of 41 in September - the album was released two months later, according to the original plans.
